One of the big plans for Virtual Ventures is video.

Not big flashy studio videos. Not face-on-camera performances. Not anything that feels awkward or forced.

I want to build a simple, clear, hands-only filming setup where the focus stays on the making.

Hands, yarn, hooks, stitches, tools, projects, notes, and the little details that actually help people follow along.

Why Hands-Only Feels Right

Virtual Ventures has always felt more comfortable as a hands-only space.

I do not want the focus to be on me as a person on camera. I want the focus to be on the work, the process, the textures, the colours, and the small practical steps that help someone feel less stuck.

That suits crochet especially well.

When someone is learning a stitch or following a pattern, they do not need a huge performance. They need to see where the hook goes, how the yarn moves, what the stitch should look like, and where the next step begins.

A good close-up can be much more helpful than a perfect-looking video that does not actually show the important bit.

Making the Stitches Clear

One of the reasons I care so much about lighting, camera placement, and the desk setup is stitch clarity.

Crochet can disappear very quickly on camera if the lighting is poor or the angle is wrong. A stitch that is obvious in real life can turn into a blurry little yarn fog on screen.

That is not what I want.

I want future videos to be useful. If I am showing a pattern, tutorial, or tricky section, I want people to be able to pause the video and actually see what is happening.

Clear videos will also help with pattern support. If someone gets stuck, I want Virtual Ventures to be the kind of place where the answer is easy to find, whether that is through a blog post, a photo guide, a video, or a livestream.

Preparing for Crochet and Chatter

The hands-only setup is also part of the plan for Crochet and Chatter.

The idea is simple: people can turn up with whatever they are working on, grab a drink, bring a blanket if they want, and settle in for a friendly creative natter.

It does not have to be only crochet.

Someone might be knitting, drawing, sewing, planning, journaling, designing, 3D printing, working on laser ideas, or just sitting quietly with a project nearby. The point is to make a space where people can ask questions, share progress, get tips, or simply have company while they make.

The setup needs to support that feeling.

Warm, clear, calm, and easy to join.

Building It Properly Takes Time

At the moment, this is still a work in progress.

I am figuring out where things should go, how to mount equipment safely, how to keep the desk usable, and how to make everything work without turning the space into a nest of cables and chaos.

It would be easy to rush it, but I do not want to do that.

The website, the lighting, the camera angle, the audio, the photo setup, and the livestream plan all connect together. They are part of the same bigger goal: making Virtual Ventures feel welcoming, useful, and reliable.

So this is another behind-the-scenes step.

Not finished yet.

But definitely moving in the right direction.
